Even in the NYC, the Yankees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnyc.org\/story\/285001-barely-used-yankees-parking-garages-face-financial-collapse\/\">required thousands of parking spaces<\/a> to be built along with their new stadium.  The problem is, no one wanted to park in them, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecity.nyc\/2020\/12\/7\/22159981\/yankee-stadium-parking-lot-woes-block-soccer-field-goal\">taxpayers have lost millions of dollars<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fieldofschemes.com\/2020\/12\/08\/16861\/yankees-threaten-to-halt-own-soccer-stadium-project-unless-bankrupt-company-cleans-up-garages-that-would-be-torn-down-anyway\/\">empty garages are holding up the construction of a new soccer stadium<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/2020\/12\/08\/caring-for-those-who-care-free-parking-is-not-it\/\">Op-Ed in the British Medical Journal<\/a> makes the case that providing free parking to hospital workers is antithetical to the mission of health care providers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A pair of notable twitter threads crossed our path this week. This one live tweets a presentation given by our Advisory Board member, Norman Garrick titled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/threadreaderapp.com\/thread\/1336762165055787008.html\">Value Parking and the Land on Which it Stands<\/a>.&#8221; And this thread by UC Davis professor Chris Elmendorf <a href=\"https:\/\/threadreaderapp.com\/thread\/1338200114389635078.html\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/threadreaderapp.com\/thread\/1338200114389635078.html\">compares California and Oregon&#8217;s approaches to statewide parking regulations<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And hot off the presses today, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sightline.org\/2020\/12\/14\/oregon-big-parking-reform\/\">Sightline&#8217;s Michael Andersen digs deeper into Oregon&#8217;s new statewide parking requirement rules<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What&#8217;s happening in various cities around the globe? Paris is on its way to halving on-street parking and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2020\/12\/paris-parking-spaces-greenery-cities\/\">wants to know what Parisians think is the best use of the reclaimed space<\/a>. Arlington County, Virginia is joining a number of other US municipalities in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arlnow.com\/2020\/12\/08\/arlington-county-to-launch-variable-parking-pricing-along-metro-corridors\/\">pursuing performance based parking pricing<\/a>.
